Biography
Leighton is a Media Relations Officer working in the Communications Office at Durham University. A former Chief Reporter with seven years’ experience on local and regional newspapers he first moved into public relations with the Reg Vardy motor group before joining the Communications Office at Durham County Council. For the past seven years he has worked at Durham University where he is responsible for raising the research profile of the Faculties of Science and Arts & Humanities, as well as overseeing the University’s down-the-line TV facilities on behalf of the Communications Office
Abstract
Connecting Durham University to the World
Durham University is a World Top 100 and UK Top 10 University with an outstanding reputation for its academic expertise and research. Over the past decade we have worked hard to raise the profile of Durham’s research excellence with the media including major broadcasters. This presentation will briefly look at Durham’s strategic communications aims, provide an overview of the University’s experience of the Janet/Globelynx TV trial and how being able to offer down-the-line television facilities has helped directly connect the University with some of the world’s leading broadcasters. The presentation will also explore other plans that Durham University has for increasing video content on its website using the Globelynx TV facility
